The Rivers Crouch & Roach are richly diverse areas made up of rural and urban locations all along the coastline.
There are many reasons to want to fly a drone in the Crouch Harbour Authority area, but please remember there are rules and regulations you should adhere to.
Before flying a drone, whether a private individual or commercial registered operator please make sure the drone is registered and you have the appropriate licences.
There are some essential rules you should follow:
Registration and Training
o If your drone weighs more than 100g and has a camera, you must have a Flyer & Operators ID from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Airspace and Height Limits
o Your maximum flight height is 400 feet (120m).
o You must always keep your drone in your direct visual sight, without any aids.
o Do not fly near airports or restricted zones – you may be committing a criminal offence.
People, Vehicles & Buildings
o You must maintain a horizontal distance of 50m from people, vehicles and vessels not under your control.

o Never fly directly over crowds of people.
o Keep at least 150 away from residential, recreational, commercial and industrial areas.
Nature and Conservation
o Much of the Rivers Crouch & Roach are designated as SSSI sites, as such Natural England will have their own rules regarding drone usage over these areas. You may need to contact the landowner or legal occupier and they may need to apply to Natural England for consent.
