Burnham Week 2026
Burnham Week 2026 will take place from Saturday 29th August 2026 to Saturday 05th September 2026
Increased river traffic during Burnham Week
Throughout the week, a higher number of sailing and rowing crafts are expected to be underway on the river.
Mariners are requested to proceed with additional caution, remain vigilant, and maintain a proper lookout at all times.
River activity during Burnham Week
- Daily competitive racing starting on Saturday 29th August
- Rowing Events.
Those responsible for organizing all rowing events during the week have been requested to keep courses outside the main fairway and not to use fairway buoys as racing marks.
- Row Aurora – Hometown Row Saturday 29th August
The 28ft ocean rowing boat ‘PENNY B’ is expected to return to the River Crouch following its successful crossing of the Atlantic from Newfoundland to the West Coast of the UK.
The vessel is scheduled to return to Burnham and berth at the Burnham Sailing Club Pontoon at approximately 13:00hrs for a welcome celebration on Saturday 29th August.
It is anticipated that there will be several local vessels including Gigs and other rowing boats accompanying the ‘PENNY B’ as she approaches Burnham.
The vessel will not navigate within the main Fairway however we respectfully request that it, along with the escorting vessels are not impeded.
- Firework Display – The event will proceed only if safety requirements are met and weather conditions are suitable on the day.
It is hoped that Burnham Week 2026 will conclude with a firework display on the evening of Saturday 05th September 2026.
The display is expected to begin at approximately 21:00 hours and last for around fifteen minutes.
Pyrotechnics will be discharged from a floating pontoon moored fore and aft at the following approximate position:

000° 49.025E
This position is opposite Burnham Quayside, near the CHA Harbour Office. The location may need to be changed on the day, subject to weather conditions.
Exclusion zone and safety arrangements
A 200-metre exclusion zone will be established around the pontoon. The exclusion zone will come into force at 20:50 hours, ten minutes before the display begins, and will remain in place until the display concludes.
Mariners MUST remain outside the exclusion zone during this time.
A safety boat will be in attendance throughout the display
