River Crouch – Burnham Week Regatta

Please be advised that the Annual Burnham Week Regatta will commence on Saturday 29th August 2015 through to Saturday 5th September 2015.  Mariners are kindly requested to be extra vigilant and considerate of their wash whilst the competitors are taking part in the 8 day event.

Additionally this year there will be 2 days of Gig Racing.

Sunday 30th August 2015 - Gig Racing - Timetable as follows:

Gigs will be launched in the morning at Burnham Yacht Harbour or Essex Marina

10.00 – 1200 Briefing/Registration at Crouch Yacht Club

Start times 1300 Ladies Race

1345 Men’s Race

1430 Mixed Crew Race

Gigs will be berthed alongside pontoons, moorings or recovered at the Marinas overnight.

Course to be arranged on the day to take into account weather conditions but it is likely to be approximately one mile in duration.

 

Monday 31st August 2015 - Lord Nelson Cup Gig Race – Timetable as follows

Gigs will be launched at the Burnham Yacht Harbour or Essex Marina in the morning

10.00-12.30 – Registration and briefing at the Crouch Yacht Club for race entrants

1400 Start of Race

Course:

  • Start line to 

  • No 13 buoy (leave to Stbd )   0.9nm

  • No 15 buoy (leave to to Stbd)    0.2nm

  • West Quay(leave to Stbd )       0.9nm

  • Down to a special buoy to be put in  position 51.37.24N 0.49.98E opposite Harry Lymers barge (leave to  Stbd)1nm

  • Back to to West Quay  (Leave to Stbd )1nm

  • Finish at Fairways Crane Line    1nm

Duration of the race will be approximately 2 hours over a distance of 5 miles.

There will be safety launches and RIBS accompanying the race.

Gigs recovered from 1500 – 1600

Race Officials, Safety Boats and Marshalls will be keeping a listening watch on VHF Channel 37.

It is hoped there may be as many as 30 vessels taking part in the Lord Nelson Cup Gig Race.  Mariners are kindly requested to be vigilant and give those taking part a wide berth and pass with caution.
